Bad Breakup Ritual Guide

Welcome. I'm glad you're here :)

This ritual was designed to help release unhealthy relationships, heal from heartbreak, break emotional attachments, and create space for the love you truly deserve.

Sometimes relationships end because they're meant to. Sometimes we outgrow each other. Sometimes we finally realize we've been settling for less than we deserve. Whether you're healing from a breakup, letting go of someone who keeps finding their way back into your life, or simply closing the door on relationships that no longer serve you, this ritual was designed to help support those goals.

If you're a baby witch, you'll find detailed instructions to guide you through the process. No gatekeeping here.

If you're a seasoned practitioner, take a look anyway. Included is helpful information on your kit, techniques I have found to be especially effective beyond lighting a wick, and suggestions for continuing the work after the initial ritual is complete.

Full Ritual Instructions

Begin by creating sacred space. Light incense and play music that helps you shift into a ritual mindset. The included herbal blend may be burned on charcoal, or you may use an incense of your own choosing. Cleanse both your aura and your physical space. As the smoke rises, visualize heartbreak, disappointment, unhealthy attachments, lingering emotions, and anyone who no longer deserves access to your energy dissolving and leaving your field.

If desired, create an altar or ritual workspace using photographs, old letters, meaningful objects from the relationship, crystals, fresh flowers, symbols of healing, or other objects connected to the relationship you're ready to release. If you do not maintain a formal spiritual practice, simply choose a quiet space where you can be alone and focus clearly on your intention.

On a piece of paper, write a clear and specific petition describing what you're ready to let go of. This may be the person, relationship itself, painful memories, unhealthy patterns, or anything else that's keeping your heart stuck in the past. Be as specific as possible.

Hold the petition paper between your hands and charge it with your intention. Picture yourself free from the weight you've been carrying. Imagine your heart feeling lighter, your confidence returning, and yourself looking toward the future instead of the past. Allow yourself to fully experience the feelings of peace, relief, freedom, and self-worth.

Next, hold the candle in your hands and charge it with the same intention. Carve names, affirmations, broken hearts, sigils, or phrases related to your desired outcome into the wax.

Apply the ritual oil to the candle, sprinkle a small amount of herbal blend onto your petition paper, then roll the candle through the herbs while speaking your intention aloud.

Place the dressed candle into the included cast iron holder and set it inside a fire-safe bowl or dish. Fold your petition paper away from yourself once, then continue folding counterclockwise four times to symbolically send the relationship and everything attached to it out of your life. Place the folded petition beneath the candle holder.

Light the candle and allow it to burn completely. Spend a few quiet moments thanking the relationship for whatever lessons it brought, then lovingly release it.

Once the candle has finished burning, leave the petition beneath the holder overnight. The following day, either burn the petition to ash in a fire-safe container or dispose of it away from your home in a body of water or in the earth. Many practitioners prefer to leave breakup and release work at a crossroads or public trash receptacle as a symbolic act of moving forward. Personally, I love releasing mine into the swamps, but wherever you feel called—and have safe, legal access to—will be the right choice for your practice.

So mote it be.
