Bless This House Ritual Guide

Welcome. I'm glad you're here :)

This ritual was designed to cleanse your home of unwanted energy, bless the space and everyone who lives within it, invite positive spirits and peaceful energy, and create a home that feels safe, welcoming, and protected.

Sometimes we can feel when a house just feels... off. Maybe there's been a lot of arguing, stress, illness, grief, or simply too many people coming and going. Sometimes you've just moved into a new home and want to make it your own. Whether you're blessing a brand-new space, refreshing the energy of your current home, or creating stronger spiritual protection for everyone who lives there, this ritual was designed to help support those goals.

If you're a baby witch, you'll find detailed instructions to guide you through the process. No gatekeeping here.

If you're a seasoned practitioner, take a look anyway. Included is helpful information on your kit, techniques I have found to be especially effective beyond lighting a wick, and suggestions for continuing the work after the initial ritual is complete.

Full Ritual Instructions

Begin by creating sacred space. Light incense and play music that helps you shift into a ritual mindset. The included herbal blend may be burned on charcoal, or you may use an incense of your own choosing.

Cleanse both your aura and your physical space. As the smoke rises, visualize heavy energy, lingering negativity, conflict, fear, and anything that doesn't belong in your home dissolving and leaving the space. Imagine your home becoming brighter, lighter, and filled with peaceful, protective energy.

If desired, create an altar or ritual workspace using a house key, family photographs, meaningful heirlooms, fresh flowers, protective symbols, crystals, or other meaningful objects connected to your home and the people who share it. If you do not maintain a formal spiritual practice, simply choose a quiet space where you can focus clearly on your intention.

On a piece of paper, write a clear and specific petition describing the home you're creating. You may write blessings for the people who live there, protection from negativity, peaceful relationships, good health, prosperity, joyful gatherings, or anything else you'd like your home to become known for. Be as specific as possible.

Hold the petition paper between your hands and charge it with your intention. Visualize yourself walking through your home feeling completely at peace. Picture laughter filling the rooms, restful sleep, loving conversations, protection over everyone who enters, and every guest leaving happier than they arrived. Allow yourself to fully experience the feelings of comfort, gratitude, safety, and belonging.

Next, hold the candle in your hands and charge it with the same intention. Carve your family name, your address, protective symbols, affirmations, sigils, or phrases related to your desired outcome into the wax.

Apply the ritual oil to the candle, sprinkle a small amount of herbal blend onto your petition paper, then roll the candle through the herbs while speaking your intention aloud.

Place the dressed candle into the included cast iron holder and set it inside a fire-safe bowl or dish. Fold your petition paper toward yourself once, then continue folding clockwise four times to symbolically draw peace, blessings, protection, and harmony into your home. Place the folded petition beneath the candle holder.

Light the candle and allow it to burn completely. Spend a few quiet moments imagining every room in your home surrounded by warm, protective light. Focus on the feeling of coming home to a place that supports, protects, and restores everyone who lives there.

Once the candle has finished burning, leave the petition beneath the holder overnight. The following day, either burn the petition to ash in a fire-safe container or drown it in water and dispose.

So mote it be.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience to use this kit?

Not at all.

Bless This House was designed to be approachable for beginners while remaining useful for experienced practitioners.

Do I have to be moving into a new home?

Absolutely not.

Many practitioners perform this ritual seasonally, after illness or conflict, before welcoming a new family member, after unwanted guests, or anytime the energy of the home feels like it needs a fresh start. Pro tip: On a full moon or within 2 days before or after the full moon is the optimal time for a house cleansing, but perform it as you feel called.

Can I perform this ritual for someone else's home?

Sure!

Many people perform house blessings for family members, friends, loved ones, or new homeowners with their knowledge and permission. Include the address of their home and name of the residents in your petition and/or carved into the candle.

How often can I perform the ritual?

As often as you feel called.

Many practitioners revisit house blessings at the beginning of each season, after moving, after difficult life events, or whenever they want to strengthen the peace and protection of their home.

Do I have to use all of the herbs and oil at once?

Please don't!

A little goes a long way. Most kits contain enough material for up to 30 individual workings when used primarily for candle dressing. Additional herbs and oil may be used for incense, offerings, threshold blessings, altar work, and other home-focused spiritual practices as desired.
